I could just eat these as a meal.
Okay.
Excuse me? Julianna, I found a new project for you (to make for me).
Now, off to enjoy a bayside dinner with the family. I’m just going to leave you with this…

Ta ta for now.
This week was for many things, but mainly… work. The promise of vacation (for the better part of July) however, seemed to make the extra 20 hours of the work week bearable. How could it not? Other things that make the week bearable? Knowing that your coworkers are in the same boat, especially one of your faves.
On Wednesday, we packed up the office early and set on our way to CityZen to staff an event (which she - favorite coworker - poured her soul into). We spent a while handing out nametags, serving as honorary coat laptop bag checkers, and dodging a seating card snafu. Our reward? A six course epicurean dream dinner accompanied by a wine pairing. The menu was to die for, even for this picky eater.
Highlights:

SAUTÉED CHESAPEAKE BAY SOFTSHELL CRAB
with Path Valley Farms Oregano and Spring Asparagus Ravigote

BLACK COCOA-CARDAMOM CAKE
Crème Fraîche Mousse, Peppermint Sorbet
I’d like to think I’d go back, but unless the aforementioned place of work intends on giving yours truly a hefty raise some time in the near future, it might be a while.
Tackle Box is opening up shop this week just a hop, skip and jump from my apartment and I could not be more excited. Lobster rolls? Crispy scallops? Happy hour? Short walk? All in one? YES PLEASE!

- How my parents forgot to introduce me to avocados, sugar snap peas, and hummus.
- How I managed to take my watch off during yoga, proceed to put in on the window sill, consider the fact that I might forget it, tell myself, “you won’t forget it”, and then forgot it.
- How come the managers at my yoga studio haven’t called or emailed me back. Hi, I come to yoga, because I’m an anxious person. You are supposed to be helping. Please do so.*
- How much better my life is with Bob Seger’s “Night Moves” in it.
- How today is beautiful and it’s supposed to rain on Saturday. How about a trade?

- And how flipping excited I am to see her.
*Update: They called and guess who has her watch back where it rightly belongs?
You guys. Bacon ice cream. Let me start with: I don’t like ice cream. Whatever, judge all you want. I DO however, love bacon and if there was ever a reason to maintain my omnivore status (I contemplated vegetarianism for a hot second and by that I mean, second), bacon IS the reason.
Rewind to Saturday night dinner with mom’s best friend from high school and her family. I return from the ladies’ and am pop-quizzed by the GOH, my mom’s best friend’s husband/birthday man, “What’s the first word that comes to mind when I say, “Bacon Ice Cream”?” Obviously, my response was ”yum.”
And it was. It was more than that. It was AMAZING. And it’s all I can think about. I’m now trying to figure out, how I can get myself to Alexandria on the reg to visit Brabo for dessert. If you have wheels and are up for an adventure, call me! You won’t regret it.

I’m meeting a couple past roomies for lunch at Chopt in a bit. One of my biggest issues is my indecisiveness when it comes to ordering food, especially at places I don’t frequent. I have to look at the menu beforehand especially in Seinfeld-Soup-Nazi-esque lunch stops or I’ll P-A-N-I-C.
I’ve honestly spent the last 15 minutes agonizing over “which salad”?
Like I said, first. world. problems.
Tried to start the week off on a healthy note. Solid breakfast and salad for lunch. Out the door at 3:30. Bring on the Combos and copious amounts of coffee. Ugh.

Let me start by saying, it’s been way too long since my last stop at Julia’s Empanadas. I don’t know about you, but that Chorizo really does it for me. I get that many people eat these treats as just that — a “treat,” a late night snack, post-bar food, but not me. I don’t like to pigeon hole something so tasty. I’ve been known to indulge after a long day of work or when the craving hits. Don’t judge me!
Anyways, someone suggested a NEW empanada place, Panas Gourmet Empanadas, and while I belabored straying from the oh-so-dependable Julia’s, I stumbled upon this review of said NEW place. Tell me this doesn’t look a little more socially acceptable for dinner? Lunch? Maybe breakfast? Okay, pushing it, but really…

Long story short, I went! Shocker. These empanadas are about three bites each versus basically a meal at Julia’s which means… I can have more than one and not feel like a monster! Hooray for me! In fact, they have combos which make it seem socially acceptable to have FOUR. I didn’t, but I did try two different ones and each. one. was. amazing. Moral, of the story, you should go.
The end.
