If I didn’t sell you on Dance party before…

you’ll be missing out on this AND this. Yes, fried Snickers pops. I repeat: Fried. Snickers. Pops.

The Mad Hatter’s Dance Party

Every year, the Washington Ballet’s young professional association, the Jeté Society, puts on a wonderful event - Dance Party. Last year was my first year with Jeté and it impressed upon me how important community involvement truly is. Having been a dancer in my formative years (before being yanked onto the basketball court - mom sees dancer, dad sees rebounder…), the accessibility of classes to young children is very important to me. In addition to building a foundation for ballet patrons in the future, the Jeté Society works in conjunction with the Ballet to raise funds for student education.

Ok, enough, enough, before I lose you…

If you’re in DC this weekend, like dressing up, want an excuse to get out, DIG open bar and heavy hors d’Oeuvres, there’s really only one place to be - the Jeté Dance Party. And lucky for you, it’s not too late to get tickets!

And if you’re less the party kind, but still interested in getting involved send me a message or find out more here.

One of my favorite things to do during the holiday season growing up, was to catch a showing of the Nutcracker. (I’m still holding on dearly to my short-lived ballet career.) Lucky for me, I have lovely group of girlfriends who are not only willing to indulge me by accompanying me to this evening’s performance by the Washington Ballet, but who are also excited about it!

Since I’d hate for you to feel left out, I leave you with this. A seasonal greeting from the Washington Ballet and the Presidents…

so maybe…

…just maybe, sake bombs at 11 PM last night weren’t the best idea…

caseyculture:

The evening started on cobble stone streets of Georgetown with a New Yorker in town for one night.
Just a couple of girls bound by college Greek letters, unforgettable memories and their love for a good time.
They checked our names off the list and we click-clacked our way into George.
The scene was historic portraits of Mr. Washington on the walls,
And your usual Georgetown prep crew,
Michael Jackson-esque dancing by the fellas.
And mashup tunes flowed from Miley to Build Me Up Buttercup.
There was Le Little, The Texan, Ms. Photogenic, The Hunter and Yours Truly.
We clinked our glasses. Got into the groove.
And made an epic exaggerated exit as we dougied out around 3 AM.
DC - you make me nostalgic. You have a part of my heart. And your lucky to have a serious cool crew of ladies call you home.

This weekend was for concerts, wonderful college friends, dance parties, late night chats, lots of laughs, the cutest little Lady in the world, and Mexican brunches. Sad to see the weekend and Casey go. Come back soon Move here now!

Just snagged two tickets to the Washington Ballet’s Jeté Society 10th Annual Dance Party. You want in. You do.

Dear Weatherman,

Here is the forecast for tomorrow according to you:

I’m going to request one of two things from you. A) MAKE IT SNOW (like really snow) or B) MAKE IT STOP. We have a party tomorrow night celebrating 24 glorious years of 24-7 SASS, and the only options are for a snow day on Thursday so that the birthday girl may recover from her wild and crazy festivities or for the weather gods get their act together so that people stay to play despite having to go to work the following day. Snow without a snow day really isn’t an option. Got it? Good.

Loyally yours*,

CK

*Unless you totally screw this one up (read: 1.6 inches of rain/snow).

A week after Hurricane Alec swept DC, I finally had the opportunity to upload some pictures of our college-y reunion celebrating the brief return of our Senegalese Peace Corps volunteer. So, without further ado…

(And yes, if you are wondering, those two beautiful bloggers gracing a few of these pics happen to be our very own Jess and Dani.)

It’s here again!

One of my favorite things about living in DC is my proximity to the Zoo. For several festive holidays (Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Christmas), they hold a series of special events. Beginning Dec. 3 and running through the first of the New Year, you can enjoy Zoo Lights. I don’t care if you’re 5 or 50, it’s cool.

And since, all of my IRL friends HATE the Zoo, if any of you local Tumblrs would like a tour, I’d be happy to oblige!

I have to admit to being a bit of cynic when it comes to California. I must love it since everyone else does, right? Wrong-O! The few times I’ve been have been dismal. It snowed in Santa Barbara. SNOWED!

This time, I was determined to leave loving it. After all, some of my favorite people are from there and one of my favorites is a new resident/never-returning-to-her-east-coast-roots, California lover.

Here’s a quick peek of why I’m reconsidering my judgement on California… Will you look at that view?!

This life.

I was just poring over my calendar trying to fit in a time to see my family and I realized, my life over the next month is about to become a little crazed…

Sept. 4-8 :: L.A.
Sept. 8-11 :: Laguna Beach for one of the BFF’s quarter century celebration
Sept. 11-12 :: Denver to visit Alyssa and see STS9 @ Red Rocks
Sept. 18 :: Diane’s bridal shower (we just scored the best goodies)
Sept. 24-26 :: College reunion of sorts coupled with Virgin Freefest
Oct. 1-3 :: Connecticut bound for UCONN homecoming weekend (and fam, phew!)
Oct. 7 :: Ratatat @ 930

I don’t know when we grew up.

I don’t know when we grew up, but last I checked, I was still going out on school nights, staying up too late, and taking beach trips on Wednesdays. Now, all of a sudden, I’m a bridesmaid in a real life wedding of a friend MY AGE. There is no doubt in my mind that this young woman has found her knight, but holy mother, Diane! You’re grown up! And here we are, preparing for the first of what will be many weddings and with that, an opportunity to act like kids — the bachelorette party.

Thanks for giving me an excuse to feel like I’m in college still, even if only shortlived. And thanks for giving me an extra reason to celebrate you (as if I needed one)! 24 hours until a 48 hour sprint through NYC with some of my best friends from college. Can. Not. Wait.

P.S. Tumblrs - Any bachelorette party veterans have fun suggestions/must-do’s for our weekend?

Virginiaaaa

Those of you who know me, know I have a hard time venturing into VA. It’s an inexplicable hang-up which makes no sense at all. Tonight, however, I’m busting out of my comfort zone and heading into Arlington for happy hour at Clarendon Grill (read: DOLLAR BEERS!) and then making moves to Iota to catch a The Morrison Brothers Band show (check them out).

Fun, summer night. Care to join?
